Everyone agrees that Jesus’ multiplication of five loaves and two fish to feed 5,000 men was a miracle. But we don’t spend much time thinking about the original five loaves and two fish. The Lord’s Prayer says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” It’s no coincidence that Jesus stops and offers thanks to God when he first gets the little boy’s lunch in his hands. Before he breaks one loaf, he acknowledges God’s role in providing the seed money, the daily provision, the planting corn.
